In search of Sooty Falcons – a birding excursion in the desert.

Date: 28/9/25

Time: 10:30 - 21:30

Sooty falcons are one of the iconic and endangered species of falcons that nest in the Negev Mountains. Join Meidad Goren, Director of the Ramat Hanegev Birding Center, for this special tour to learn more about all the work he is doing to protect these special birds.

We will meet our safari vans at Sde Boker which will take us down into Nahal Zin – the largest wadi that begins in the Negev
After stopping at an observation point to view the river bed, we will continue towards Nahal Akev. Along the way, we'll stop to watch some of the local desert birds and hope to spot some migratory species as well

At Ein Akev, we'll get out of the vehicle and walk toward the spring. On the way, we'll look up at the sky for birds of prey, on the cliffs and among the streamside bushes for small birds enjoying the abundance of water and food the area has to offer. We’ll return to the vehicle and continue the tour along the Oil pipe route and Zin Field back to the cars.

For adults and children over the age of 13

Walking - easy to moderate. 1-2 km
No experience is necessary! Guiding in English

Bus will leave Jerusalem at 10:30 and will pick up in Beit Shemesh at 11:00.
