When learning psychotherapy we can become so enamored of the method and intervening "correctly" that we neglect listening to the patient, assessing them thoroughly, and creating a specific case formulation to guide treatment. In this audio-visual seminar, Dr Coughlin will speak about the importance of case specificity and illustrate the concept with video taped clips.

Dr Coughlin is an ISTDP therapist and supervisor, she is very direct at her work as she is very thorough at assessing the patient as a person, mostly relaying on the patient responses to intervention as the guide for therapy. in this seminar you will learn the importance of listening to the patient as he is the expert that can tell us verbally and non verbally what he needs help with.

Attending webinars can promote passivity - simply watching "the experts" in motion. In this webinar we are adding an interactive element. In the second half of the session, participants will present their own cases so that, together, we can formulate a specific understanding of the patient and formulate a plan to address their needs and capacities. We will have three slots available. Each participant will have 45 minutes to present a trial therapy so that we can put our knowledge and skill to the test.

In the first part of the seminar Patricia will present a new case of her own for us to learn from.
