Dance of the Asian Houbara – A Birding Bus Trip to Nitzana and Ezuz
Date:15/3/26
Time: 06:00 to 18:00

Spring in the Negev Desert offers birdwatchers a rare opportunity to witness one of the region’s most spectacular natural events: the courtship display of the Asian Houbara (formerly known as MacQueen’s Bustard). We will travel to the species’ traditional dancing grounds and patiently observe the males as they perform their remarkable breeding displays.

In addition to the houbara, the open desert and agricultural edges of the Nitzana–Ezuz region host an exciting variety of desert and migrant species. Possible sightings include Little Owl, Cream-colored Courser, sandgrouse, wheatears, and other spring migrants. We will also bird the Berotayim grove and surrounding habitats, a known hotspot for migrating songbirds during the spring passage.

On the return journey, we will stop to enjoy the spring bloom of the northern Negev, adding a scenic finale to a rich day of birding.

No prior birding experience is required—beginners are welcome.
Easy to moderate walking on paved paths and uneven ground.
Guiding in English.

This is a bus trip that will leave from Jerusalem at 6:00. There is an option for pickup at Latrun at 06:30. Pick up is also possible in Beer Sheva.
Drop off in Jerusalem by 17:00.

Cost: 435 nis per person

395 nis for members of Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel (SPNI) and English Bird Club.
Includes bus, Professional guide, and entrance fees.
