Experience the beauty of Israel's spring flowers as we explore the famous Lupine Hill (also known as Tel Socho) in Emek Ha'Ela. The beautiful tall blue flowers cover the hillsides along with many other flowers of all colors. As we walk, we will search for the foundations of the ancient city that stood here in the time of David and hear how the area is connected to the battle with Goliath.
After a picnic lunch, we will travel to the Madras Ruins (Hirbet Midras) to explore the ruins and caves used during the Bar Kochba Revolution, including some unusual pyramid shaped tombs.
This walk is Easy to moderate along uneven paths through the hills - some uphill and downhill portions. Approx 5-6 km.

The Details:
Meeting place: We will meet at the Nili and David Jerusalem Bird Observatory, on Rothschild Street, next to the Knesset and then travel by bus to Emek Ha'Ela
Pick up available from Beit Shemesh
When: March 2nd, 2025
8:00 - 15:00
Cost: 380 nis, 340 for members of SPNI
Difficulty level: We will be walking approximately 5-6 km at the 2 locations on the trip. Moderate difficulty walking at all sites- uneven unpaved paths and some uphills and downhills.
Please contact us if you have accessibility needs.
Bring: 2 liters of water, a picnic lunch and snacks, camera, binoculars, hat, good walking shoes, hiking poles if needed. Dress for the weather.
