Lupines in the Land of David and Goliath
Spring Hike and History in Emek Ha’Ela
9/3/26 | 07:00–17:00
Celebrate spring in Israel with a full day of wildflowers, hiking, and history. We begin at the famous Lupine Hill (Tel Socho) in Emek Ha’Ela, where vibrant blue lupines blanket the hillsides, accompanied by a stunning array of other spring blooms. As we walk, we will explore the foundations of the ancient city that stood here in the time of David, and uncover the fascinating story behind the legendary battle with Goliath.
After a picnic lunch, we continue to Khirbet Burgin, one of the key archaeological sites in Adullam-France Park. Here, we will explore ruins, caves, and hiding tunnels used during the Bar Kochba Revolt. Adventurous participants can peak into select tunnels for a firsthand glimpse into history, while we discuss the significance of this remarkable uprising.
Easy to moderate walking (5–6 km), along uneven paths with some uphill and downhill sections
In English
Bus pick-up: Jerusalem and Beit Shemesh Train Station
Price: 365 nis,
325 nis for members of Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel (SPNI) and English Bird Club.
Includes bus, Professional guide, and entrance fees.
